Longhouse Construction Days
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM in early May We are excited that more than 300 volunteers showed up on April 28 to strip bark from soft and hardwood saplings needed for longhouse construction. We view the Longhouse Project as a true collaboration between diverse people who are passionate about what Delaware leader Curtis Zunigha called “an effort to make great change” in the way Americans think and talk about our shared history and culture. That being said, we want to extend a special invitation to members of the Native American community to come, witness and participate in the construction of this replica longhouse. If you are interested in helping with this historic project, please contact Becky Gochnauer at the 1719 Hans Herr House: (717) 464-4438 or longhousehansherr.org. Work will need to happen quickly in the first weeks of May while the saplings are pliable. Work days will be 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday. A professional crew will be present every day to keep the project on schedule and provide direction. Please bring your own lunch. |
