Annual Storytelling Night
Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society hosts Annual Storytelling Night on August 9 at 7 pm EDT at Mellinger Mennonite Church. Featured speakers are Myrna Smucker and Jesus Cruz. This presentation is an in-person event but will stream online as well. Connect the night of the event at bit.ly/AMN21. Donations are encouraged to support our mission to preserve history through storytelling.
Told in a series of short-format stories, each storyteller relates personal anecdotes from richly varied life experiences.
After earning her education degree at Eastern Mennonite University, Myrna Hershberger Smucker taught English and German at Lancaster Mennonite High School. Myrna is a freelance writer. Her recent book, The Bird-in-Hand Story: 50 Years of Smucker Family Hospitality, 1968-2018, details the genesis and growth of the Bird-in-Hand Restaurant & Hotel and associated businesses in Bird-in-Hand, PA.
Jesus M. Cruz has served local and international communities in a varied career, from being an associate pastor to his extensive work in the financial services field to his role as National Program Director for Mennonite Central Committee. He currently works as a consultant for a Lancaster organization opening a new credit union that focuses on underserved persons, like recent immigrants.
